Based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, we are a thriving, friendly and social club that offers playing opportunities for our members throughout the year. At present we run the following teams:
The Junior Section is a key part of Wycombe Hockey Club and we run a comprehensive development programme for both boys and girls aged between 6 and 12 years of age. Coaching development and league match programmes are also provided for U14 to U18 boys and girls of all abilities.
Wycombe Hockey Club has England Hockey 'ClubsFirst' accreditation status and actively promotes player, coach and umpire development. Our founder clubs can boast a number of players who have achieved Olympic, International, Regional and County honours, together with many who have passed through on their way to higher levels of club hockey.
History (under construction)
The Club was formed by the merger, in 2008, of the Men's high Wycombe hockey Club and Wycombe Rye Ladies' Hockey Club which were founded in 1900 and 1934 respectively.
High Wycombe (men's) Hockey Club was founded in 1900 and played its matches at various locations in the town until it made High Wycombe Cricket Ground its home in 1948. The club is proud of its long association with the Carrington family; Lord Carrington became the President of the club in 1931 and the present Lord Carrington is the club’s current Patron.
By 1954 the club was fielding four teams per week and in 1966 our own club player, Les Macready became an International.
The club continued to grow and a Veterans side was formed in 1984.
A key ambition of the club was almost achieved in 1994 when it was defeated in the end of season ‘play offs’ for promotion to the National League.
The club has won the Buckinghamshire County Cup twice and runner up five times in the past 14 years.
Two players who had played for the club in their early years gained International honours; Jon Wyatt played for Great Britain in the Atlanta Olympics and Scott Ashdown was awarded an England cap. Jon went on to captain Great Britain in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
